Censos d’aus aquàtiques hivernants 2018
Com cada any per aquestes dates, la Societat Ornitològica de Menorca (SOM) està preparant ja els censos d’aus aquàtiques hivernants a Menorca, amb la col·laboració de l’Agència de Reserva de Biosfera de Menorca. En aquesta ocasió les dates triades són el divendres 19 de gener capvespre pel cens de dormidors d’Ardeids i el diumenge 21 de gener matí pel cens d’aus aquàtiques.
Què és i en què consisteix el cens d’aquàtiques?
El cens d’aus aquàtiques s’emmarca dins el programa internacional de censos (IWC, International Waterbird Census) que coordina l’organització Wetlands International a nivell global des de 1967. A Menorca des de fa més d’una dècada és la SOM l’encarregada de coordinar-lo. Aquest consisteix a comptabilitzar totes les aus aquàtiques (ànecs, fotges, agrons, soterins, corb marins, limícoles…) de normalment 11 zones humides repartides per tota la geografia insular. L’any 2017 es van censar un total de 5.452 aus de 48 espècies diferents. El cens, que es fa al matí, comença a la mateixa hora a totes les localitats, i ornitòlegs i voluntaris repartits en grups dediquen el temps necessari a comptar totes les aus de la seva respectiva zona humida mitjançant l’observació des de punts d’observació o fent petits recorreguts a peu.
Què és i en què consisteix el cens de dormidors d’ardèids?
El cens de dormidors d’ardeids és una iniciativa de les diferents entitats ornitològiques de les Balears (el GOB a Mallorca, el Gen a Eivissa, el GOB Formentera i la SOM a Menorca) que va començar de forma coordinada l’any 2007. En l’actualitat, a Menorca, se censen un total de 15 localitats i l’any 2017 es van comptabilitzar 726 ocells entre ardeids i corb marins. Aquest cens es fa al capvespre de forma simultània a totes les localitats, unes hores abans de la posta del sol. Des d’un punt estratègic, els ornitòlegs i voluntaris repartits en grups es dediquen a comptar totes les aus que arriben al dormidor per passar la nit.
Qui i com hi pot participar?
Hi poden participar totes les persones que tinguin ganes de passar una bona estona observant aus a Menorca, amb experiència o sense. És tan fàcil com enviar un correu a informacio.som@menorcasom.org , manifestant la vostra voluntat de participar a un o als dos censos, deixant-nos telèfon de contacte i email. El coordinador dels censos es posarà en contacte amb vosaltres i us inclourà al grup d’una zona propera al vostre poble. Els grups sempre comptaran amb ornitòlegs de l’entitat i telescopis. Cada persona haurà de dur, si té, els seus propis prismàtics.
