DESCOBRINT LA MIGRACIÓ NOCTURNA DELS OCELLS (NOCMIG)

El músic i ornitòleg escocès Magnus Robb, convidat al 2n Congrés d’Ornitologia de les Terres de Parla Catalana per parlar de la cada vegada més coneguda tècnica d’enregistrament de les vocalitzacions que emeten els ocells en vol durant la nit (NOCMIG)
La tècnica de NOCMIG (nocturnal migration, també anomenada NFC – nocturnal flight calls) és una metodologia per enregistrar el reclam dels ocells que migren de nit. Nascuda als Estats Units, la gravació nocturna i l’anàlisi i identificació posterior estan generant molt d’interès entre els ornitòlegs perquè permeten recollir dades valuoses sobre les migracions. S’ha de tenir present que gairebé dues terceres parts de les espècies que, dos cops l’any, fan el llarg viatge entre les àrees de cria i les d’hivernada, ho fan de nit. Són, en bona part, ocells passeriformes i poder-les enregistrar suposa obtenir un coneixement fonamental tant des del punt de vista biològic i ecològic, com del de la conservació.
El 2n Congrés d’Ornitologia de les Terres de Parla Catalana, que se celebrarà a Menorca l’octubre, ha recollit aquesta voluntat de seguir ampliant els coneixements sobre aquesta tècnica i ha convidat a un dels seus màxims experts, l’ornitòleg escocès Magnus Robb, que hi oferirà una xerrada plenària en la jornada de cloenda per posar de manifest la conveniència d’implantar aquesta metodologia a les illes mediterrànies, les quals juguen un paper clau en la migració de molts ocells europeus.
Robb té una història curiosa darrere: va estudiar música a la Universitat de York i composició a Londres. La recerca de melodies per a les seves composicions el va portar a gravar el cant dels ocells i va quedar tan fascinat que, des de llavors, dedica bona part del seu temps a enregistrar i identificar reclams i, més concretament, a gravar ocells en migració nocturna a la península Ibèrica i altres llocs d’Europa. Tant és així que ell mateix s’ha arribat a definir, no sense un punt d’humor, com a zoomusicòleg. El cert és que la seva formació musical li ha permès especialitzar-se a entendre els patrons en el cant i a identificar sons molt específics. La seva feina ha quedat reflectida en diversos llibres del projecte The Sound Approach, que pretén documentar el més exhaustivament possible els sons dels ocells, amb una especial atenció en les espècies de la regió oest del Paleàrtic. Els integrants del projecte, a més, formen part del grup d’experts que ha creat un protocol per estandarditzar el monitoratge de vocalitzacions nocturnes, de manera que les gravacions i les dades que se’n deriven puguin ser utilitzades globalment.
Robb serà a Menorca el 12 d’octubre per posar punt i final al 2n Congrés d’Ornitologia de les Terres de Parla Catalana. Aquesta edició compta amb el suport de l’Agència Menorca Reserva de Biosfera del Consell Insular de Menorca i el patrocini de la Fundació Marilles, l’Ajuntament de Maó i de la Fundació per a la Preservació de Menorca, a més de la col·laboració d’una vintena d’entitats científiques i de divulgació.
L’organització ha anat adaptant el calendari a la situació generada per la pandèmia i, a banda de garantir el retorn del 100 % de l’import de la inscripció en cas de suspensió, ha allargat el termini per a la recepció de propostes de contribució fins al 10 d’agost.
